Summer Night Market

  
Having explored Steveston, we headed over to Richmond, BC to the Summer Night Market.
The best way to describe this place is as a multi-cultural bazaar of kitsch, entertainment, commerce, crowds, noise and food.  Oh, the food.  More on that in a minute.

The market operates outdoors, in a huge 10-acre lot behind the local Home Depot during summer months.  It starts at 7 PM and runs until 1 AM.  We got there as it began because we are old and can't stay up late.

Richmond, BC is a suburb of Vancouver with a population of 185,000.  An astonishing 50% of that population is Chinese and that influence is on display at the market.

As we arrived, the entertainment had already begun.

Only so much of that you can watch, so Nana decided to get some silk scarves.

That was a relief, because she is seriously low on them.

We strolled up and down the aisles looking for goodies.  There was an amazing assortment of stuff, but nothing that we couldn't live without.


About 30,000 people attend the market on a given summer night.  Apparently, they are all in the food section.

You literally could not move.

David's dream scenario - people everywhere.

We decided to check out our healthy options......

It was so crowded, it was difficult to capture the scene and I certainly wish the smells could come through.

We had such a fun time, we may go back again this weekend.
