Vivi Comes to Mount Vernon

Vivi made her first visit to Mount Vernon on Sunday!

She was a sleepy girl when she arrived.

So the adults sat outside on a beautiful sunny day and waited for her awakening.
And soon enough, she awoke and began her charm campaign.

She sure does love her Nana and they look pretty good together.

Nana induced many smiles and even had Vivi talking and cooing.  By the time your are 4 1/2 months old, you have many stories to tell and Nana got to hear several of them.

She is at the age where EVERYTHING is potentially grab-able, including placemats, drinks, hair, faces, noses and anything else within reach.

Grandpa did eventually get to hold her but that went tragically unphotographed.
She settled into my arms so comfortably, we could have stayed that way all afternoon.  I stood her in my lap and blew on the back of her neck, which seemed to delight her and mystify her at the same time.
She is teething, so my finger was appropriated for chewing/sucking.  The list of people who can get away with that is extremely short.

UPDATE: Vivi and Grandpa did NOT go unphotographed!  Happily, Jeffrey took some photos and has shared them with me.

The grandparents were treated to lunch so we chose the Skagit River Brewery, which has outdoor seating.

She seemed to like it just fine.

The thing is - just behind the lattice work in that photo are railroad tracks.  And I mean JUST behind.  Like fifteen feet behind.

Vivi went to sleep in the car seat and a freight train decided it was the perfect time to roar through.  You literally cannot talk when this happens and the building actually shakes.  She opened her eyes for a moment and Niki covered her ears with her fingers.  Vivi actually went right back to sleep and slept through the entire commotion as her Mom covered her ears and caressed her head.  Amazing.

After a wonderful lunch, it was time to go back home.
Vivi desperately wants to crawl, but she just hasn't figured out how to coordinate all the moving parts.
But boy, does she try.

It it SO much fun having a West Coast grandchild!!
