Early November is most definitely "off-season" at Whistler. Too late for the beautiful spring and summer and just a bit early for the snow and ski season.
We had a great time nonetheless, since our primary objectives were to:
1. Get away
2. Rest and relax
3. Eat and drink
4. Poke around and see what we could see
Whistler was originally conceived as part of a bid to win the 1968 Winter Olympics, but a series of events led to the bids being withdrawn or losing to other cities.
Of course, all of the alpine events from the 2010 Winter Olympic Games were held here and there are many reminders of that.
Yes, that is Lydia in the ring representing the Americas (North and South).
This is Ilanaaq, the symbol of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. It is formed of stone in the Inukshuk-style of traditional Inuit sculpture.
It rained every day, but there were enough breaks to enjoy some fall color.
We stayed at Club Intrawest in the Upper Village.
No, it did not look like that when we we there.
But we had a beautiful and cozy one-bedroom unit with a jacuzzi and everything.
And a cute patio with a view of the courtyard and clock tower.
Along with a peak of the mountain with a wee bit of snow......
The common area or lobby was nice, too.
And they have a movie theatre that has three showings a day. You can pick the movie they show on a first come, first served basis.
We picked "Shutter Island" one night and had the entire theatre to ourselves. We got to bring wine and everything.
There was no snow down where we were, but I felt compelled to photographed the ski lifts anyway.
