The ferry ride over was beautiful, as always, and the sun was shining when we arrived.
But we experienced something rather unusual for the Pacific NW - thunder and lightning.
You'd think we never saw lightning before the way we gawked and oohed and ahhed. But we could count on one hand the number of thunder and lightning storms we've had in the 25 years we have lived here. It was fun to watch as well as to watch the reactions of the natives. You can read more here.
Seemed like a good night to go chasing sunsets, so we set out for West Beach.
On the way, we found a rainbow.
Actually, two if you look to the right of the brightest one.
We got there just in time.
The setting sun reflecting off the madrona trees.......
We were VERY rudely awakened in the middle of the night by one of the loudest claps of thunder I can remember. It seemed to be right over our cottage. The rest of the night was a series of flashes of light and the subsequent rumblings of thunder.
We loved to spend the mornings down at the marina where there was a cool little store where we could get our lattes and sit outside and enjoy the setting and people watch.
It seemed like everyone there either had an adorable little kid or a very nice dog.
Sometimes both.
The dogs got to frolic in the bay at high tide.
Of course, we had to walk out to the marina and check out the boats.
And then we took off to see what we could see.........
