Having lived in this area for so many years, we have been over the Deception Pass Bridge many dozens of times. The beauty of the location, the incredible currents in the water and the views from the bridge are always amazing to see.
But one thing we have never done is take a boat ride underneath the bridge. We've always wanted to do that and with the Reading/Farmers here, what better time to finally get on the water?
I looked at the long range forecast and saw Saturday as a sunny day.
Reservations booked.
Weather forecast = accurate.
We boarded a catamaran named the Island Whaler.
And we were off.
We looked for wildlife on the way out.
And we found some!
A harbor seal!
We also saw some harbor porpoises, but they were impossible to photograph.
But I managed to get a duck and her goslings.
We hit some cool waves.
On the way back we encountered a kayaker.
We turned around and went past him, creating waves so he could show off his skills.
Towards the end of the ride, there was a contest to see who could name the deepest part of the ocean in the world. First correct answer wins a free "colossal" ice cream cone.
The correct answer is the Marianas Trench in the western Pacific Ocean. First (and only) to answer was Lydia!
The tour company spared no expense and we were given Red Vines as a parting gift.
And then it was time to go.
But you deserve some bonus shots.
After all that, Jasper was asked what his favorite part was.
"The licorice part".
Of course.
